Notes from the Water Committee researching other communiitiesi experiences with water withdrawal
May 8, 2008
Attending: DD Robinson; Leanne Ponder, Tim Jennings, Carolyn Shapiro, Charlie Catlin, Rick Scharf
We had a series of questions:
1. If Mr. Antonovich starts bottling, how will it be monitored? 2. Who would be the owners besides Mr. Antonovich? 3. Have other spring rights been purchased in town? 4. What will the affects of the bottling company be on agriculture, wells, streams? 5. How do we find the people to ask these questions who live in different communities with bottling companies? a. Ask them what they wish they had done.
Carolyn will send an e-mail with a link to the S304 bill so we can read it.
We need to ask Ginny Callan if she knows of other towns who are facing this same situation. (Would it be springs or pumped ground water?)
We would like to talk to folks in these towns to find out consequences, factual information, impacts of taking the water.
We talked about meeting before or after the May 21 meeting of the East Montpelier town meeting concerning land use regulations.
This meeting will be in the East Montpelier Elementary school and we can check in as a group after the meeting.
